For some people choosing a career proves to be very difficult. The modern world offers so many choices, variations and possibilities. Some never really choose and spend their adult lives wandering from one false start to the next. Choosing a career is an important decision that will affect the rest of your life. It behooves you to get started as soon as possible.
Careers come naturally to a lucky few. Athletes and musicians, for example, often discover their talent in childhood and never seriously pursue anything else. Their talent defines them in a way that most people can only admire. Their careers are not jobs: they are callings.
There are other callings, other careers that choose their subjects rather than the other way around. In fact, the call to faith is the original calling, one heard for thousands of years by those who believe that their God has spoken to them a little louder than to most. Ask members of the clergy, of any faith, when they first heard the call and they will be able to tell you. Ask them when they made the commitment to serve that call and they will tell you that too.
Since you are taking the time to read this report you have probably heard the call yourself. Maybe it was a whisper you need to explore further, just to make sure. You owe it to yourself to find out.
The three largest faiths in the United States, Roman Catholicism, Judaism and the many variations on Protestantism collectively employ thousands of religious leaders to serve their faithful and manage the institutions that keep their faith alive. Catholic priests and nuns, Protestant ministers and Jewish rabbis are the most common, but all three have their own internal hierarchies, rank structures, career paths and opportunities for promotion. Although you are undoubtedly already committed to your faith and are unlikely to shop around for the best opportunities, all are fascinating institutions and worth reading up on. It should come as no surprise that clergy befriend other clergy, no matter what their faith, just like bankers befriend other bankers and dentists befriend other dentists. You should know what your peers in other faiths are thinking and doing.
Take careful note of the information contained in this report.
